Passenger figures revealed by airport operator BAA revealed that March saw an increase in passengers using Southampton Airport. During the month, the hub welcomed 154,330 passengers, an increase of 5.4% on March 2007.
Customer Service Director at Southampton Airport stated: "We are delighted to see continued growth at Southampton Airport, as more and more passengers are choosing to the fly from their local airport. Our easy, fast and friendly service, is proving to be very popular for both business and leisure passengers."
During March the most popular destinations were Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guernsey, Jersey, Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin, Newcastle and Leeds. Amongst the airport's 43 destinations (with 15 airline and tour operators) other top destinations included Alicante, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Brussels and Malaga. The Easter weekend saw around 3,000 people flying to Edinburgh.
As passenger numbers increase at this regional hub, the importance of pre-booking your airport parking also increases. Pre-booking your space as soon as you've booked your journey will guarantee you a space when you arrive at the airport and do so at a lower cost than the expensive gate rates.
